Careers EducationAll students at Sydney Boys High School have the opportunity of achieving their chosen pathway through the school's individually focussed Careers Education program. Our students are tertiary focussed with the majority proceeding to university. By utilising the facilities available:
students are in a position to have sound knowledge of their chosen career pathway. Formulating an Action Plan is central to each student’s post school progress. Formal interviews are conducted for each year 12 student with the Careers Adviser. Interviews are able to be conducted with students from other year groups as requested. Year 10 students are introduced to the process of planning secondary and post-secondary education pathways. Year 10 attend Careers Education lessons regularly as part of a Careers and Pathways program. All students in years 10, 11 and 12 are involved in completing their own Career Profile through the ‘myfuture’ career and pathway guidance website plus other similar programs to learn more about themselves and explore future opportunities. Students are also able to access all information via the school's Canvas Careers page and both parents and students can access the Careers news page through the Student/Parent Portal. These are comprehensive resources with links to Universities, TAFE, Guidance Programs, Careers News and other links to help students with their future choices. Students are also encouraged to subscribe to the ‘email alerts’ service through ‘work study grow’, which will keep each student well informed of all career news. Work experience is voluntary for years 10, 11 and 12 at any time that does not cause conflict with exams or assessment. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in the ‘Guest Speaker and Skills Series’, run jointly with Sydney Girls High School.
