Cricket is a sport with immense history at Sydney Boys High School and remains one of High’s premier sports. As a member of the prestigious AAGPS competition since 1906, Sydney Boys High competes against some of Australia’s strongest school cricket programs, providing students with opportunities to develop their skills in a challenging and rewarding environment.

Beyond the cricket field, this sport complements the school’s commitment to developing well rounded students who excel academically, socially and athletically. The lessons learned on the cricket field extend far beyond the boundary and contribute to success in all aspects of school life.
High Cricket Program
Cricket is played over Term 4 & Term 1 with matches on Saturday mornings. Junior teams (13s-16s and 3rd-5th Grade) usually have their games starting at 9:00 AM in the morning or 1:30 PM in the afternoon. Games usually run for four hours and are 32 overs. 1st and 2nd grade teams have 50 over games that go for the whole day.
High cricket boasts access to excellent facilities including:
- McKay Oval in Centennial Park where our 1st and 2nd grade teams play
- Turf and synthetic training wickets
- Indoor cricket practise nets
- Modern change room facilities
- Dedicated training areas for all skill disciplines
- SCG visits twice a year
These facilities aim to provide students with an outstanding environment to train, compete and develop their cricket skills.

1979 1st XI - GPS Premiers
High Achievements
At High, we have had great success in the GPS competition, winning the premiership on seven occasions – 1933, 1934, 1938, 1968, 1979, 1982 and 1994.
In more recent times, High won the Alan Davidson Shield in 2026 after a memorable victory against Endeavour Sports High. This followed the historic triumph of 1980 against Albury High School in the same competition.
We proudly recognise students who achieve excellence through:
- Selection in AAGPS representative teams.
- Representation in NSW Combined High Schools (CHS), Cricket NSW, Metropolitan, State and Australian pathways.
- Outstanding performances in GPS and CHS competitions.
- Leadership as captains and vice-captains who inspire their teammates.
- Academic excellence while maintaining a strong commitment to cricket.
- Exemplary sportsmanship, teamwork and service to the High Cricket community.
